Behind the scenes of the HI ERN Wiki

A DokuWiki instance, hosted on our webserver (bare-metal) in Erlangen.

The wiki was brought into being by Manuel Z. on 2016-04-19, then underwent major extensions in summer 2018. The current instance is a fresh install prepared in late 2022/early 2023 (“relaunch”), with a broader focus, hence much of the structure overhauled (in particular, in the area of administrative documentation).

Those affiliated with IEK-11 (members of the OU=IEK-11 organizational unit in the AD), are automatically authenticated (credentials of the wiki in sync with the e-mail account etc.).

Others have to be imported manually. This happens very rarely; the number of exceptions should be kept low (in the end, Wiki access should keep its meaning similar to physical access to the house).

The user management page in the Admin menu allows to add users one by one, or to use the CSV import function.

These credentials are not synchronised with FZJ password, and should be changed immediately.

INW employees are closely related to the H2Storage group, and have requested to access the h2storage namespace in the Wiki.

Access to the frontpage and h2storage namespaces, and the front page itself, were granted via new ACL rules.

Modification of the message displayed on the login page is done by manually editing the file inc/lang/en/login.txt in the DokuWiki root directory on the web server.

• Moved from fire to wind via some small zfs send | zfs recv dance (5.1 GB as uncompressed ZFS dump)
• Updated DokuWiki to 55.1 with the internal wiki upgrader (this would not have worked on fire, since its PHP is too old to support release-day Kaos)
• Ensure that the user authentication uses the authad plugin (old, still supported, but to be replaced at some point), with LDAPS bind to ldap.fz-juelich.de.
