Installation documentation for client PCs
🟦 Dell Optiplex 7010 (2023-11)
From eBanf 42341159 (Dell via FZJ PC-Standard form, 2023-10-31)
- MAC is printed on the case. Register it in JuNet (either as a new entry, or by changing the MAC of an existing workstation entry).
- Once IP address aka JuNet ID is known, add it to QluMan. Set Disk Config to “diskless” The 5.15 Qlustar kernel currently doesn't recognise the NVMe SSD
- Power on. F12 to enter boot menu/BIOS. Disable Secure Boot.
- Boot some Live Linux, mount ESP (
/dev/nvme0n1p1
), clearEFI/
subdirectory (backups of these files are archived on our servers, if at some future moment restoration of the Windows bootloader is desired) - Copy over
BOOTx64.EFI
from another machine toEFI/BOOT/
directory on the ESP - Plug in LAN cable, reboot
- Enter BIOS, set boot order: Boot only from SSD
- Boot. If Qlustar doesn't boot, check LAN cable.
- Test audio I/O with headset (3.5mm jack), needs some fiddling with
pavucontrol
settings and volume levels
The CPU part is properly supported, but the Qlustar 13 kernel (Linux 5.15) is too old to have full upstream support for the iGPU. See GitLab issue.
🟥 Silentmaxx Tower (2024-01)
From eBanf 42343710 (Silentmaxx GmbH, 2023-11-27, requested delivery delay to 2024-01-09 for the reception to be staffed again)
- MAC is NOT printed anywhere. Go to BIOS → Settings → IO Ports → Realtek PCIe 2.5GBE Family Controller
- Register MAC into JuNet and QluMan
- Qlustar “Schedule Format” does not work properly, maybe due to the SSD lying about its physical/logical sector size in different ways to the kernel and parted. Manual formatting necessary.
